Why should I have my vehicle's Air Conditioning system serviced?
Vehicle Air Conditioning systems lose up to 20% of their refrigerant per year. Manufacturers recommend that your system is serviced every two years.
The Air Conditioning compressor is lubricated by oil in the system and the compressor is cooled by the refrigerant. This oil mixes with and is carried around the system by the refrigerant. If the refrigerant charge is low there may be insufficient oil in the system, which can lead to internal system damage and some costly repairs. It should also be serviced regularly to remove the contaminants that are produced as a by-product of the Air Conditioning process, such as moisture, acids and debris.
Why does my vehicle's Air Conditioning system lose gas over time?
Your vehicle Air Conditioning system loses refrigerant over time because some of the systems seals and component joints leak as a result of the engine movement and the vehicle's body vibrations when it is driven.
Should I run my vehicle's Air Conditioning system during the winter?
Yes. Your air conditioning system acts as a dehumidifier therefore assists in keeping the interior of the vehicle dry reducing the amount of condensation and ice on the inside of wind screen during the colder mornings. Operating the air conditioning all year round helps to keep the system seals lubricated and in good condition, minimising the amount of refrigerant leakage.
